Nap Nanny Recliner Causes Sixth Fatality
A sixth fatality in a string of deaths connected to the recalled Nap Nanny infant recliner is putting Sanders Grossman lawyers on the alert: if you or a loved one has suffered the injuries or tragic loss of a child from a Nap Nanny, you qualify for a free legal consultation with our veteran team of personal injury attorneys.
For the last 45 years, Sanders attorneys have been helping American families prosecute negligent businesses for marketing dangerous devices that caused needless pain and suffering. One of our NY Nap Nanny lawyers can help you, too.
The latest tragedy involves an eight-month-old girl from New Jersey who suffocated from being trapped (while strapped into the Nap Nanny) between the device and the bumper of a crib.
Some 165,000 Nap Nanny and Nap Nanny Chill recliners sold between 2009 and 2012. In their recent heyday, Nap Nannies, designed by a well-meaning mom, seemed a godsend for parents whose children couldn’t sleep in a crib. But after one baby died, the product was recalled in 2010 and retooled before going on the market again—this after complaints of babies falling out of the device or being found hanging from the safety harness.
Two recalls later Nap Nanny device still lethal
Since again hitting stores after that first recall, Nap Nannies have been linked to the deaths of at least 4 more babies and dozens more injuries. Last year, Nap Nannies were recalled again. The product is now no longer sold in stores, and its manufacturer went out of business two years ago. For months, Baby Matters LLC (the company that made the portable recliner) insisted that when used correctly the product was safe and refused to pull the Nap Nanny from store shelves.
Seeking restitution in a Nap Nanny lawsuit
The federal Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a strong warning in the wake of this latest casualty, urging parents to cease using the Nap Nanny. CPSC Communications Director Scott had this to say: “Our message to parents is clear: Stop using it. It’s dangerous. There’s been six deaths already, and we don’t want another child to die unnecessarily.”
