Edward J. Nitkewicz Promoted to Partner & Senior Trial Counsel
The Sanders Firm is pleased to announce that Edward J. Nitkewicz has been promoted to partner and senior trial counsel. Since joining the firm in 2010, Mr. Nitkewicz has concentrated his practice in the areas of Education Law, Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, and Product Liability.
As a seasoned litigator, Mr. Nitkewicz’s roster of clients runs the gamut from general civil litigation parties to plaintiffs in complex commercial litigation and estate litigation.
He has extensive pre-trial, trial and appellate advocacy experience. Before joining The Sanders Firm, he was the managing partner and a founder of Nitkewicz & McMahon. The practice specialized in representing personal injury victims in general negligence, medical malpractice, and product defect cases.
Commitment to the community
Mr. Nitkewicz serves the community through many volunteer activities. He has served as an active member of Trial Lawyers Care, a pro bono organization set up by the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. The organization was established to provide free legal representation to families and victims of September 11th. Mr. Nitkewicz had the honor of representing the families of ten firefighters who lost their lives in their applications to the Federal Victim’s Compensation Fund.
In addition, Mr. Nitkewicz is a member of the Executive Board for the Long Island Chapter of Autism Speaks Long Island. He has published ten articles on parenting a child with autism including “Fixing the Hole in My Bucket” which is listed by the National Institute of Health as a parent resource article.
Mr. Nitkewicz serves on the Executive Committee of the National Alumni Association of Wagner College. And, he was recently re-elected to his third term as a Trustee of the South Huntington School Board.
Stepping up for special needs
An area that has especially called to Mr. Nitkewicz is advocacy for special needs children. Throughout his more than two-decade-long career, he has developed an expertise in the area of special education law and has become recognized as a leader in the field.
As a Parent Advocate and attorney, Mr. Nitkewicz represents families in CPSE and CSE meetings, impartial hearings, and special education litigation. He has also served as a lecturer on special education topics that focus on advocating for special education services for children.
Mr. Nitkewicz has previously chaired the Special Needs Faith Formation Committee at St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church, which develops religious instruction that is custom-fitted to the needs of children with certain disabilities. He also takes his dedication to the field as a founding coach of the Special Needs CYO Soccer and Challenger baseball programs in Huntington.
