Baby Einstein Infant Activity Jumper Recall

Baby Einstein Infant Activity Jumper Recall

Baby product recalls continue to rise in number, with a new recall issued for approximately 400,000 Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Jumpers in the United States; another 8,500 were recalled in Canada, according to a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announcement made on July 23, 2013. The recall was implemented because the defective toy poses an impact hazard and has been tied to a number of injuries to infants and one at least one injury to an adult.

New Yorkers who have purchased this product or whose babies have been injured in connection with the jumpers may call The Sanders Firm to speak with a local product recall lawyer.

Baby Einstein recall

The “sun” toy attachment on the defective Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Jumper can rebound with force. The CPSC advised consumers to immediately stop using the toy, which was manufactured by Kids II, and to contact the manufacturer for a replacement toy attachment.

To date, Kids II has received 100 reports of injuries related to the recalled Baby Einstein Musical Motion Action Jumper, which includes 61 injuries involving bruising and facial lacerations. In one case, a seven-month-old baby boy suffered a lineal skull fracture, the most severe reported injury received. An adult also suffered a chipped tooth. Injuries are commonplace when defects such as this warrant baby product recalls.

The recalled jumpers are stationary activity centers made for babies and are constructed with a support seat that is covered in blue fabric as well as a large, white metal frame. The toy is adorned with an array of bright colored toys that are arranged around the jumper’s seat. The yellow sun toy, which is attached to the seat frame is the culprit in this recall. The toy is positioned on a flexible stalk with either three or five bright rings.

The recalled Baby Einstein Musical Motion Action Jumper was sold at a variety of retail stores nationwide, including Target and Toys R Us, as well as online through Amazon.com. The jumpers retailed for about $90 each and were sold from May 2010 to May 2013. The recalled Baby Einstein jumpers were imported by Kids II Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia and were manufactured in China.

The model number of the recalled Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Jumpers is 90564. The model number may be found on the tag that is attached to the bottom of the toy’s seat. A label is sewn in on the back of the blue seat pad and bears a date code in its lower, right corner. The date codes involved are: OD0, OE0, OF0, OG0, OH0, OI0, OJ0, OK0, OL0, OA1, OB1, OC1, OD1, OE1, OF1, OG1, OH1, OI1, OJ1 and OK1.

Baby product recalls

Babies require protection all of the time. When products designed for these vulnerable consumers are defective and fail, they can lead to serious, significant injuries to the children and, sometimes, to their adult caretakers and others. These defects and related injuries often lead to baby product recalls.

In 2012, alone, the CPSC recalled about two baby products weekly including:

  • Bumbo Baby Seats
  • Peg Perego Venezia and Pliko-P3 strollers
  • Toys R Us Imaginarium 5-Sided Activity Centers
  • Tots in Mind Cozy Crib Indoor-Outdoor Portable Play Yard
