Transvaginal Mesh Manufacturers
Transvaginal Mesh Manufacturers
After the FDA approved the first vaginal mesh device in 1996, a number of other transvaginal mesh manufacturers began marketing similar products. Ultimately implantation of the products injured thousands of women, many permanently.
The Sanders Firm product liability attorneys have spent over four decades helping victims of defective medical devices file lawsuits to recover for their injuries. If you have been hurt by pelvic mesh, we encourage you to contact us for a free, confidential, and no-obligation discussion of whether a transvaginal mesh lawsuit might be of assistance.
Severe mesh complications reported
Surgical mesh is designed to provide structural support for internal organs. Surgeons use the mesh in transvaginal surgery to treat two conditions that commonly afflict women as they age, especially after childbirth: pelvic organ prolapse (POP), in which the bladder and other organs sag into the vagina; and stress urinary incontinence (SUI), in which urine can leak every time a woman coughs or laughs.
Soon after the FDA approved the first mesh product, reports of life-altering complications began to surface, including:
- Severe pain
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia)
- Mesh erosion through the vagina
- Urinary problems
- Neuromuscular problems
- Organ perforation
- Recurrent prolapse
- Emotional problems
- Pain experienced by male partner during sexual intercourse

Pelvic mesh injury lawsuits
Over 55,000 transvaginal mesh lawsuits have been filed to date by women seeking compensation for their injuries. As many as 500,000 transvaginal mesh implantations have been performed every year since the mid-1990s. Given the many alleged injuries that have resulted from these surgeries to date, we anticipate that thousands more women will suffer serious complications in the future.
Attorneys at The Sanders Firm have spent their careers representing victims of defective medical devices and injurious products. We work closely with expert medical consultants, skilled investigators, and veteran support staff to evaluate each victim’s circumstances and determine whether compensation is available through a transvaginal mesh lawsuit. In over 40 years of experience, we have helped thousands of victims recover for their pain and suffering, past and future medical bills, emotional damages, and lost earnings, among other losses.
Starting in 2010, many transvaginal mesh cases were centralized for pretrial processing before Judge Joseph R. Goodwin in West Virginia federal court. As of April 2014, seven multidistrict litigation (MDLs) were pending in the Southern District of West Virginia.
The transvaginal mesh MDLs pending include:
- C.R. Bard, Inc., MDL No. 2187: 8,195 cases pending as of March 28, 2014
- American Medical Systems, MDL No. 2325: 17,111 cases pending as of April 1, 2014
- Boston Scientific, MDL No. 2326: 11,274 cases pending as of April 3, 2014

- DIMA S.L., MDL No. 2511: 11 cases pending as of March 25, 2014
Many lawsuits against these manufacturers are also being handled in state courts. In addition, Caldera Medical faces litigation for its mesh products, although those lawsuits have not been coordinated in federal court in West Virginia.
