Phyllis L. Sanders graduated Brooklyn Law School in 1984 and was admitted to practice law in New York State in 1985. She is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association. She has been admitted to practice in Federal Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. Mrs. Sanders is a member of the American Arbitration Association.

For fifteen years prior to becoming an attorney, she taught remedial reading in the New York City public school system. Mrs. Sanders has a Masters Degree from City University of New York with a specialization in remedial reading.

Among her charitable activities, she served on the Board of Directors of the Rehabilitation Institute and was a member of the Long Island Cabinet for the State of Israel Bonds for four years. She also created a scholarship at the Brooklyn Law School. Mrs. Sanders was the Chair-person for the Long Island State of Israel Bonds for over two years. She is a member of the Bi-County Political Action Committee and is involved in the United Jewish Appeal/ Federation Long Island Lawyers Division, as well as the Professional Women’s Division. Mrs. Sanders, along with her late husband Stanley, created a scholarship endowment at the Jewish Theological Seminary. She has been involved with the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association for many years and currently serves on the CMTA Board of Directors.
