Hofstra Law Grad E. David Woycik Distinguishes Himself In Recent Work
David Woycik, Jr., Esq., a senior partner at The Sanders Firm, has had a distinguished career since graduating from Hofstra Law with his Juris Doctorate in 1980. Attorney Woycik has been honored professionally when the law school named its intensive trial techniques program after him. But he has also been committed to intensive work in other parts of the community with his involvement in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.
Woycik, who also received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Hofstra in 1977, has been an active in raising money for the schools scholarship fund for many years. He has received several awards from the school, including the George M. Estabrook Distinguished Service Award in 1991, the Hofstra Award for Alumni Achievement in 1992, and Hofstra University Alumnus of the Year in 1998. And the athletic department recognized his distinguished career in 2009 as well.
Intensive Trial Techniques Program
Hofstra University renamed its intensive, seven-day course for trial techniques The E. David Woycik, Jr. Intensive Trial Techniques Program in 2005 in recognition of Woycik’s distinguished career. Woycik served as assistant district attorney for Suffolk County between 1979 and 2003, when he was appointed special U.S. attorney for New Jersey. He is now a senior partner at The Sanders Firm, where he specializes in tort cases, including those involving personal injury, construction, highway design, and toxicity. Many of his clients have received multi-million dollar settlements or jury awards over the years. He has also served as guest lecturer at the New York State Bar Association, Nassau County Bar Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association.
During the trial techniques program, advanced law students improve their courtroom skills in areas that include opening statements, summation, examination, documentary evidence, and expert testimony, as well as crucial negotiation skills. Students receive personalized feedback from experts in the field.
Committed to Long Island’s Big Brother/Big Sister Program
Woycik has had a long-standing commitment to Long Island’s Big Brother/Big Sister program, serving on the board of directors since 1995, as well as the President for a time. He established an endowment program to raise funds for parent-less children and is a member of the Disabled Children’s Relief Fund which helps children in need to obtain medical assistance. In recognition of his involvement, the program named their headquarters the E. David Woycik Jr. building.
In addition to his activities with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Woycik has also been involved in the Northport Veterans Hospital, working with veterans who are in need. A colonel in the US Army Reserves who has served in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, Woycik has been decorated multiple times for his achievements in the military.
Awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal, and many others. He was named Hofstra University Veteran of the Year in 1999. He lives in Garden City, NY with his wife, Carolyn Sanchez, of Los Angeles.
