I’m Jennifer Gertis. I’m a partner with the Sanders firm. I mostly handle personal injury car accident cases for the firm, and I look to try and help my clients navigate the really tough world of personal injury lawsuits.
I went to Fordham Law School, graduated about 20 years ago, so I’ve been doing this for that many years. I became a lawyer because I graduated from the University at Albany. Didn’t really know what to do with my life, and I was in the Summer Youth Program and one of my sites was a law firm where Mark Gman, who was a partner here, said, “Hey, when you graduate, if you need a job, come check me out.” And that’s what happened.
I was his paralegal for 2 or 3 years and then I went on to law school. When I graduated, he hired me back. There’s not one particular case that I’m proud of. It’s really all of them. I have multiple six-figure results and even the small cases, you know, anything to help my clients.
At Sanders, we try to have a team approach to handling our cases from the claims process to the litigation process to the trial process. Just because I haven’t handled a certain type of case and I might not know what doctor, what injury, there’s probably someone in our staff who understands the problem I’m dealing with.
And I think that this increases the value of our cases because something I might not see, someone else can see and give me some ideas on my own file. We work as a family here at Sanders.
