What Should You Do If a Nursing Home Retaliates After a Complaint?

Video Transcript

Can a nursing home retaliate against the patient or the patient’s family when a complaint is made? Should not happen. Would not be a wise thing for the facility to do. A matter of fact, what the facility should be doing is bending over backwards to try and assuage the family that their loved one truly is being taken care of. And I’ve seen that before where maybe the family would retract the complaint. So, that’s something that should not happen. And if it did, actually the New York State Department of Health actually has a division dealing with nursing homes. And that’s where you would file your complaint if that ever happened. That would be a full investigation. A nursing home would have a hard time dealing with that situation. They should know better.
