Another area of automobile accidents we see a lot of are motorcycle accidents. Depending on who you speak to, they may have different opinions on this. So, I can only go by my life experience.
Motorcyclists need to follow the same rules of the road, the same vehicle and traffic laws that automobiles do. Automobiles need to respect motorcycles and be aware of them. So, it really cuts both ways.
I don’t want to see a motorcyclist weaving in and out of traffic and weaving in and out of lanes because it’s dangerous to automobiles.
At the same time, automobiles need to recognize that motorcycles have a right to be on the road. As long as they’re following vehicle and traffic laws, automobiles have to also. And they have to be aware.
It’s not as easy to see a motorcyclist as it is to see an 18-wheeler on the road. So, everybody, when they’re driving, has to operate with due caution and be aware of motorcyclists.
A lot of times, I speak to investigating police officers who sometimes actually witness these accidents, and they say that the driver of the car just must have missed it and didn’t see the motorcyclist coming.
So, I always recommend to anybody who asks me about this topic to just be aware. If you happen to see a motorcyclist, give them the same respect and the same courtesy. The same rules of the road apply as they would to any automobile.
